Default Motorguide question

Just rececntly replaced the batteries (all 3) in my boat. I've taken it out 3 times since and trolling motor will only go at one speed........SLOW! It's a motorguide 64pd thrust fooot controlled motor. Anyone have this problem before? I've tried all settings and it's all the same. No thrust and no change in speed no matter what setting. Could the electric motor in the trolling motor itself be shot? It's only 3 years old and I've pulled the prop and made sure it wasn't fishing line etc....binding it up. Any help or suggestions would be appreciatted before I have to pay the piper to check it out. By the way, all other electronics and such are working fine.

Skeeter, try moving the wires around-I'm thinking it is a 24V motor and it sounds like it might be only getting 12V. I'd also check to make sure the batteries are good-you might have gotten a bad one. Hopefully it is something minor like that.

If its not changing speed at all, I don't think its the batteries. Theres a sort of switch or whatever that is responsible for the different speeds in the head of the trolling motor, it regulates how much current is transfered to the foot and if something goes wrong with that it will often only go one speed. I have an old trolling motor that only goes full power. I wish I could tell you its easy to fix, but in truth it seemed about impossible on my old one - I think you could probably order the part however if its a 3 year old motorguide.

I know what the problem is MOTORGUIDES SUCK. I have had 2 on my boat and they didnt last very long. The first one the rod that steers it broke, the second one the rotor was rubbing against the stator in the motor itself and making a hell of a noise.

I use Minn Kota, never had any problems with them

Thanks to those with an actual ATTEMPT to answer my question! It ended up being a simple wiring problem and all's well now. I found a wiring guide through MOTORGUIDE's web site and it was a pretty easy fix.
