Bigger bass are not always deeper. But what I would do is stand on the bank and cast to the pilings with a crank bait or worm. Make sure to hold tight the pilings in the shade of the pier over the ones that are not!

I do all the time. If the bass happen to be under the dock when you're fishing from it, you have as good a chance as any. Just keep in mind, they might not always be there. For examples, if there are swimmers, around, there might or might not be there, but they might be skittish.
100% of all of the bass I have ever caught have been from either the shore or a dock. Note: This beauty was caught off of my lake's dock

I agree with the earlier poster i would throw to the pier first before walking on it. I went yesterday and was throwing around a 10 place boat shed and hooked a bass that was probably pushing 3 lbs and accidentally hit the drag on my reel as i was reeling and he got off as i was trying to fix it and take in the slack oh well am going again int he morning and try again

my brother and his son are at guntersville state park this week. (and no he ain't even asked if i needed help packing. and yea i am mad about it.) anywho, his son caught a 7# 1/2 ounce bass around 9 pm last night. on a 8 inch black and blue worm. FROM THE PEIR. so yes, you can catch huge bass from the peirs.

here is another thought. when oyu see folks out there fishing from a boat, where are they fishing? they are fishing the banks, hitting the piers, boathouses, lay downs. think about it........ now this makes one wionder why we need a boat huh?

The big advantages of a boat are that you can cover a lot more water, don't have to worry about finding an open spot on a brushy bank, can get to almost all spots, can make a long run to get there in a short amount of time and can fish deeper water. That being said, most everything else you can do from shore that you can from a boat.
