38-43 degrees, cloudy with a strong wind from the Southwest
20 Jan 2011 - Lake Guntersville Fishing Report – Mike and I hit the lower-mid part of the lake today trying to get a read on what the fish are doing since the snow and extreme cold spell. We found water temps from 39.5 to the low 40’s with good color. Air temps “Cold and Colder” weatherman lied, I don’t believe it ever got over 44 degrees and we had a strong wind out of the southwest. I must say it was not a great day but we did manage some fish and they had some size. The lake appears to be recovering from some extreme cold as we observed schools of dead shad all over the back waters. There is still a little ice near the shores in some spots and plenty of dead shad. If you are going to fish in these colder parts of winter, please wear your life vest at all times and don’t forget to drain your lower units of all water. We fished several baits, rattle baits, Spinner Baits, Jerk Baits and Tight-Line jigs. Watch for fishing to start improving over the next three weeks after the snow goes away and if the weather stabilizes. I have days available for February and I’m already booking days for the March and April, make your reservations now for some great action on Guntersville. “Let’s go fish’ in”
