12 Feb 2011 - Lake Guntersville Fishing Report – With several early trips in the books all ready this year, it appears we are finally going to see a “REAL” break in the weather here in the Mid South. As for the what has been going on all my recent trips have been to the mid to lower portion of the lake where we found water temperatures starting at 42 and climbed to 46.5 by end of most days, including today. We managed to find some nice fish working traps and jerk baits slow in 4 to 7 FOW. If the forecast holds over the week look for a change in the pattern. We should start moving towards an exceptional spring bite. As the water warms to the 48-54 degree range, the fish will start feeding in preparation of the spawn; this should start in Mid March when the water hit 58-62 degrees. Fish the first emerging weeds and grasses with rattle traps, jerk baits, large spinner baits, critter baits, and jigs. Slow roll a spinner bait over structure and flip/pitch the heaviest cover you can find. This is the time of the year when a Carolina rigged lizard can be deadly when targeting those giant Guntersville/Nickajack Hog’s in 4-12 FOW. Please use caution when fishing early spring the while the air temp’s may reach 65-70 the water is still in the 48-55 range and can be deadly for the angler who falls in the water. I have days available for February, March is getting slim and I’m already booking days for the April and May, make your reservations now for some great action on Guntersville. “Let’s go fish’ in”
