Windy and partly cloudy
16 Apr 2011 - Lake Guntersville Fishing Reports – Today, I was joined by the Murphy family from Mt Juliet TN, Chris, Karis, Austin and Karis’ Aunt, Uncle and Dad from Central Georgia. Water temps are dropped a little as expected from yesterdays storms and are steady at 63-64.5 degrees in the coves off the mid lake area. Our better fish came on wacky rigged senko’s, chatter baits, spinner bait and football head jigs by Tightline Jigs on secondary points in the coves. Austin owned the best action of the today which was around grass, stumps, docks and lay downs in four feet or less of water. He boated a solid 8 Fish with 3 of them over 4 pounds and one spawned out female over 5.5 pounds , the whole family caught fish today, with several good fish in the 2-3 pound range. The key factor simply remains being in the right place at the right time with the right presentation. As always during this time of the year check for a spinner bait and buzz bait bite every stop, even though we had no real takers today it will bust wide out soon. Over the next few days this wave of spawners will done and will start to feed more aggressively. As that progresses watch for an all out top water assault and for the shad spawn at the beginning of May.
The fishing is only going to get better on both Guntersville and Nickajack in the coming weeks with both lakes showing signs of an all out fish producing April and May! I have few days left in for this week after that it’s 30 April before I have anything open, I'm already booking days for the May and June, make your reservations now for some great late spring time action on Guntersville and Nickajack. It won't be long and we'll see the steady spinner bait and top water bite on both lakes "Let's go fish' in"
