Temperatures ranged from low 50's to low 70's. Partly cloudy
I had the opportunity yesterday, Sunday, to fish the Upper Flint River for a few hours in the afternoon for the elusive shoal bass that I am so fortunate to have so close to my home. For months the river level have been so low that fishing it has been near impossible. Over the past month we have had some pretty good rains, so the water level has been on the rise. This makes paddling my kayak much easier and is also better on the bottom of the yak. I started out the afternoon fishing a Zoom Pumpkin Green on Green Trick Worm and a 1/2 oz. Booyah pig n jig. There were no takers of either of these baits so I switches to a 1/4 oz. white spinnerbait with tandem blades. The water was actually heavily staines with about 2 feet of visability. I had one "dink" take a swipe at the bait but didn't hook up. Later in the afternoon when heading back to the put in, I was casting at a blowdowns in deeper water and "slow rolled" the spinnerbait by the trunk up close to the bank. BAM!!!! She engulfed the bait and headed out to deeper water all the while doing her acrobatic jumps. After a few snapshots and weighing her in at 3lb. 8oz., she was released to fight another day. What a way to end the afternoon, especially in January! Looks like the new year is off to a great start. Stay tuned for future reports on my river kayak fishing experiences and hopefully some great pictures of the beautiful fish and scenery we have here!
