Great Pond, ME

Brought the family to a small military rec area located on Great Pond which is located about 40 minute drive NNE of Bangor (see link below). Bought a one day license after making a stop at Wal-Mart enroute here for a couple of baits which I thought had potential for smallmouth. Caught a couple pickeral and a gold shiner yesterday, but not much else being I had my wife and daughter in the canoe with me and not much time for fishing. Used a Gitzit Tube/jighead. Went back out this morning - winds were calm - beautiful time to be out on the water. Tied on a black/gold Rapala Original Minnow (floater). In two hours out by myself - caught 6 smallmouth up to 2.5 pounds, 6 Pickeral, 1 sunfish, and 2 perch. There are Largemouth and Chubs here too - they were the only species in the lake I did not catch. All fish caught were immediately released. Fished the Rapala with short aggressive jerks with short pauses in between. Fun day of fishing - have not caught a smallmouth in a couple years.

Link below to the lake. Most of the open fields in the area viewed via satellite are Wild Blueberry fields. Prediction is third week of July - berries will be ripe for picking. Picked a good many wild strawberries along the roads in the area. They were very sweet. Blackberries should ripen around same time as blueberries.
