Temperature was 22F when we arrived at the launch at 8:30am. We had mainly cloud skies and 10mph wind with the forecast promising sun in the afternoon and dimishing winds.
With a little bit of ice on the shoreline we had to be careful putting the boat into the water. We got on to the water at about 9:00am and were fishing within 10 minutes. Fishing was fairly slow for the first two hours, but we still manged to pick up a few fish early. The fish were either there or weren't. Once the sun got up and the temperature warmed to about 50F we started to get into them. Almost all the fish caught came from vertically jigging directly under the boat or pitching 5-10 feet away from it. Electronics played a huge role today. We were mainly successful with a tube, small beaver tails on jigheads, and jigging spoons. The most and biggest fish were found in 21-25 feet of water just off shallow points that had a fast tempering drop into deep water. Other fish also came on the tops of main lake humps in 16-18 feet. Overall, it was a successful day. We landed almost 30 smallies with the biggest just under 20'',as well as some other very nice fish. Consequently, it was the last trip of the year.
