NEW BLOG: Old School Fishing Commercials

Hey gang,

Last week Garry Thornton (author of our Hollow Core Braid Guide) shared a really awesome YouTube video from the 1950's on baitcasting. Everyone got such a kick out of the video, I thought I'd put together a blog showing more of the "old school" videos about vintage fishing tackle and old reels and all that good stuff. I like how they kept referring to her fishing as catching dinner!
The weird under flick cast that guy did was pretty wild!!

I loved that last video especially. They don't make videos like that anymore. Almost like Disney provided the music back drop. haha

I love the executives in their suits. It comes from a time when everyone took pride in their life right down to taking pride in the clotehs that they wore to work. Even the assembly people wore collared shirts under their work overalls. This pride usually found its way into their product, garnering brand loyalty from consumers, which drove profits. In today's society, it seems that executives make profits by cutting costs and quality as far back as possible. They dont care about the product they make, they just care about driving a Porsche home at the end of their 4 hour work day.

I wann alearn that under-flick cast... that looks like it would be handy tossing a senko under and overhang...

Well said walker... it's amazing how different the world is now compared to just 50 years ago.

I think that's what makes these videos so great. They really capture that time in America where fishing was more than just a cacophony of whizbang products hyped to market. Technology in fishing reels was advancing faster then than now, yet the marketing focus still remained on the "joy of fishing".

Those videos are way cool.....I enjoyed all of them.....Makes me want an old glass rod so I can try that funky whip cast, that ol'boy was doing. That was slick.
