Grubs The Forgotton Bait.

Today there were high temps and I imagin the water temp was really high also. I started out throwing and pitching a Ugly otter around a small pond and no takers. So I went to a tube and had no takers either. I had just bought some grubs because I had remembered someone posting on here about them and I got the idea that I really need to be using them. So I tied one on the my spinning rod and fished in the same areas where I had with the other bigger baits and I got a couple of two and a half pounders in like 15 minutes. I said hey these are doing pretty good. I caught them in shallow water with the grubs in the shade so I thought maybe I will go back to my tube and otter and consentrate on the shade some more and see if I wasn't fishing the right spot but I had not takers. After 30 minutes I switched back to a smoke grub againg on a jig head and bam got another two pounder. Looks like the grubs I got saved the day. Maybe it was luck that my grub landed on the fish that wanted to bite and they weren't there when I was throwing my other baits but I am satisfied with the results.
Start using the little grubs more I mean I have never seen anyone else use them because they are like sissy baits to people but I think its one bait I will fish more in the future after todays experience.

They're versatile. Drag 'em along the bottom, jig 'em, swim 'em, there's no wrong way.

What size grub works well?

I'd start out by telling you to stock up on 2 inch and 3 inch powergrubs or any grub with some scent...and I have had great luck this year with brown crawdad
and also pearl white, never forget about chartruse and chartruse and white.
Whats nice about fishing grubs, you can put them on a jig head, 1/8th ounce or bigger, or smaller, and throw them out and reel steady, OR, a deadly smallmouth tatic is to throw on rocks and hop it.
When you get a hit instead of setting the hook straight over my head like I would with a worm or pig n jig, I tend to keep reeling and swoop to the side and back, for some reason that is the way I was taught and have stuck with it, mainly because the crappies up here hit the grub like that.
You may go through some pan fish on grubs, but after the bass see's whats going on they usually come over too, many times I have gone through white bass or other fish to finally get a black bass, and of course they are all fun to catch.
You can texas rig a grub , I'd go 3 inch in heavier cover.
Really changing the size of the grub as the year goes on helps, at spawn I go with 2 inch, then stick to 3 rest of summer, also always keep some on hand for spinnerbait and buzzbait trailers..good luck!

Yeah grubs work great, the ones I prefer are the chartreuse grubs about 2 inches long, with medium size jig-heads.

I think for largemouth, 4" is a good size, although any size can work well. Going to a 5" could possibly weed out some of the smaller fish, if that's what you want, although a small fish is more than capable of taking them if it wants to. And going to a 3" might get you some more numbers, if that's what you'd like.

Twin tailed skirted grubs are a great hot/deep water bait. I caught my biggest smallie on one a couple of weeks ago. I rig them on a heqavy football jig head and fish them on a steep rock bank.
