Default FISHING IN CLEAR WATER

I would like to learn as much as I can on this subject.
Here are a few questions.
1. what are the best type of lures or rigs to use?
2. is top water fishing with torpedos etc any good?
3. what are the best colors to use worms or lures?
4. does the color of the line matter?
5. what are the best times and weather conditions?
anything else that you could enlighten me on, I
would really appreciate
thanks
Mahat

Welcome to the forum!

Let's see......
1. There ain't no such animal as a "best" lure. It depends on a whole lot of variables as to what the fish will hit at any given time-that's why you need to try a number of different baits to find out what the fish want.

2. Yes it is. Best day I ever had came on a torpedo-I lost count at 27 largemouth on 27 consecutive casts, all between 1 and 2 pounds.

3. In clear water natural colors-watermelon, watermelon red and green pumpkin.

4. Some say it does, some say it doesn't. I use braid which can be visible and green mono, which is harder to see. Basically it comes down to confidence. If you think it makes a difference it does, and if you think it doesn't it doesn't.

5. This time of year early and late.

Here is a great link for someone getting started:

  • [1] The one you have confidence in
  • [2]The Zara spook jr is among my favorite baits to use, they catch alot of fish for me.
  • [3] Colors can vary from lake to lake as a preference the fish in that lake like best. I would suggest green pumpkin, Black/red flake (black neon)
  • [4]The best time is whenever you can get out to fish. You will learn a whole lot from fishing a variety of days with different given conditions.
  • [5]When you are fishing pay attention to what is happening around you as you fish and where you are fishing, allow the fish to bite, present your lure as part of the surroundings your fishing. This sounds stupid now but write it down on a peice of paper and put in the bottom of your tackle box. 5 years from now as you learn it will make perfect sense. Remember P N J told you this. ;D

3.Use more natural colors and try to match your lure color to the forage you trying to imitate. When imitating shad use white, bluegill use some chartruese and orange, crawfish use red or brown, ect.
4. Yes the color of line does matter. I beleive green has less visibility than clear. I always use green unless I'm fishing a worm or jig when it is important to watch your line. Clear line is easier to see above water.
5. Morning, evening, cloudy days. Any low-light periods.

Other topics have already been covered.
