I like the rod too, have about six ugly sticks cause of the big fish we get up here. Pound for pound best rod in that field. good choice.

classic design that's worked for years, excellect low/mid priced reel. Will be purchasing one to replace the abu i busted last weekend. The bait monkey doesn't even say anything anymore, I just buy it, he keeps his mouth shut, he don't say much anymore except when I throw my lure in the trees.

i use a mitchell 300xg -gold reel . as smooth as a much higher priced quatum energy pt.-which i also have- the reel will hold up quite awhile. i caught a 28 pound blue catfish on a finesse worm with this reel and landed him. still works very good.

ugly sticks are a very tough rod. though lack a tad bit to much feel for my taste.

I've been using the ugly sticks for years. The 300x was the first "new" reel I bought after years of using the old 300's since I was 13. Since i started bass fishing I use mostly bait casters but that is my go to spinning outfit. Good combo in MHO.

Ugly sticks are good for cats and that is about it if your serious about fishing spend a few bucks on a decent rod!

i dissagree 100% i have an ugly stik and it is very sensitive despite what some think.....very durable....very comfortable....and has a lifetime warrenttee so no matter what happens to it...you can get a new one.....

so you can bend them so the tip touches the handle and they wont break? i have seen people do it to ugly stiks in person and it didnt break......ugly stiks are generally made tougher.......you even said it yourself they use them for cats(which are generally bigger then bass)....and they are used in saltwater.......all for big fish...plus i work lots of cover......i have to be able to pull the bait outta thick stuff......i guess we'll have to agree to dissagree.

I am not saying there not tough they win that hands down. Great rod for a kid. They are just not sensitive at all and there real heavy. They also have a moderate action meaning the whole rod bends thet have a action more ideal for crankbaits not worms. If your gonna fish heavy cover it is better to have a rod w/ fast action.

i think i may have picked up a weird ugly stik then......i hear people say its not that sensitive....but the one i have is really sensitive...i can detect fish picking up my baits......(and dropping them when i am to slow...lol) saying it is for a kid is not even right.....most say spincasters are for kids, and just look...a zebco was used to win a classic.....(not sure the guys name) now i personally dont like spincasters...but they can be used very well with bassin.....as for ugly stiks...they are(atleast mine) sensitive, and tough...and dont cost an arm and a leg......they get the job done with ease.....i dont even see how people say this and that are for kids when it comes to fishin(unless your talkin those kid combos...which are) because the fish doesnt decide whos lure its gunna take by the equipment the fishermen has.......

People are way too sensitive, and defensive. I have to agree with TM. I used a buddy of mines ugly stick, and hated it. This is just my opion. I perfer berkly lightning, diawa makes a good rod, shimano, and of course my personal favorite is a qauntumn. This is all just from persoanl use.

bf02, what he's saying is you can feel much lighter hits from bass with a one of those rods he mentioned. Can mean the difference of catching 5 fish in a day and getting skunked. Take a look at TM Customs photos and you'll see he knows what he's talking about.

Tm I think you might have a problem here because I have seen where Tim Horton has use the ugly stick lights in tournaments before and that guys has won a lot of money. ;D ;D ;D I use all BPS extreme rods though. 8)
