PETA employees arrested for animal cruelty
Pair dumped dog and cat carcasses in dumpster Associated Press — June 17, 2005 AHOSKIE, N.C. — Two employees of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals were charged with animal cruelty for allegedly picking up dogs and cats from shelters and dumping their dead bodies in the garbage. Police said they found 18 dead animals in the bin and 13 more in a van registered to the activist group, all from shelters in the state's northeastern corner. Investigators arrested the two workers after staking out a garbage bin where animals had previously been dumped, police said Thursday. PETA President Ingrid Newkirk said the workers were picking up animals to be brought to PETA headquarters for euthanization. Veterinarians and animal control officers said the PETA workers had promised to find homes for the animals rather than euthanize them, according to police. Neither police nor PETA offered any theory on why the animals might have been dumped. PETA spokeswoman Colleen O'Brien said the organization euthanizes animals by lethal injection, which it considers more humane than gassing animals in groups, as some counties do. The group scheduled a news conference Friday in Norfolk, Va., where the group is based. Police charged Andrew Benjamin Cook, 24, of Virginia Beach, Va., and Adria Joy Hinkle, 27, of Norfolk, Va., each with 31 felony counts of animal cruelty and eight misdemeanor counts of illegal disposal of dead animals. They were released on bond. No home telephone number was listed for either Hinkle or Cook, and a message left for Cook at PETA headquarters was not returned. I simply can't stand PETA and what they do. Â*First of all they are just plain loser a**holes, getting in the way of everyone that would ever do anything to animals regardless of what it is. Â*My biggest beef with them is that they claim to "help" the animals and want a natural environment, but they do far more harm to animals and the environment than pretty much anybody else. Â* Â*They have the idea to "let animals be free," Â*so they may raid some pet store or testing facility and release all the animal which are not naturally found in the environment... ever hear of snakeheads? Â*Stuff like this has caused major damage to various natural species of animals in th US. Â*They also think it is a good idea to blow up chemical plants that may produce chemicals that somehow alter the environment...dumba**es, causes 10x more harm than anything else. Â*Plus their no control burn policy is retarded. Â*In the past a fire may spread to 50,000mi2, now a fire will probably spread less than 50acres, so controlled fires are needed. Â*Because no controlled fires are allowed in some areas, the brush grows more than it should and chokes out native species and makes some extinct even. Â*For instance the red-cockaded woodpecker, they need pinewoods with a clear floor in the woods, the way things normally are in the Southeast. Â*Because groups like Peta won't allow for the controlled burn of undergrowth, this species is nearly extinct as well as several others. Â*I've said enough, soap box is just about worn out... *stepping down* BTW my sister is an environmental scientist, so I know these things. |
