20 w/ 225 v. 21 w/250
Besides the obvious cost of the rig, what are your thoughts on the tradeoffs between a 20 foot boat with a 225 versus the same model boat but 21 feet with a 250 (assuming that those are the max coast guard engine ratings)?
Will the 21 footer be any faster? Assuming the same size fuel tank, will the range be alot shorter for the 21? Reliability of a 250hp versus a 225hp engine? Anything else you can think of would be helpful. I'm just trying to see if there is any reason for me to get the smaller (20 foot) boat. Thanks, CBedo |

it would be better on gas. my buddies boat has a 250 and he gets 4mpg now that sucks. i don't know how much better the 225 is but is has to be alittle bit. and i wouldn't think the speed would be too different
now me and my row boat can go 10 miles before i need to refill Reliability- the 225 and 250 should be the exact same if they are built right |

Why not go with the 21 foot boat and the 225? Top speed differences will be very small, and the fuel consumption will be a little better with the 225. You should be in the mid to high 60 MPH range with the proper setup. Not a whole lot of reasons to go any faster than that.
