I think yopu hit the nail on the head. Thats is what dictates when I switch something ...be it lure, color, size, water depth watever it maybe. If your catching smaller fish with a few keepers mixed in find the pattern within the pattern and 90% of the time your size will increase. More than once I have been fishing say jigs in 4ft of water and catching alot of small ones and just moved out to the outter edges of the cover I have been fishing and started to catch the better quality fish. |

i fish and get those 5 keepers in the boat before i think of upgrading my catch. if i get 5 small ones, then i'll upsize my bait until i get some bigger stuff and cull out the smaller ones. if i go several minutes in a spot without a hit on one bait, i instantly switch. a lot of days in unknown water im just chucking a spinnerbait and slowing down when i start getting some hits. nothing ultra complicated.
