I use Pflueger reels almost exclusively. If you are interested in Pflueger, I know a source that discounts them and occasionally has "reconditioned" reels at really good prices. You can inquire by email as to what may be available in the "reconditioned" reels - as it varies quite a bit.
As to the Supreme (baitcaster): it has been discontinued so parts or repair may prove difficult to obtain in the future. I would suggets the Summit as an alternate choice, don't let the "high speed" designation turn you off. The Summit (7.1:1) has a smaller spool, and the reel recovery is identical (28" per handle rev.) to the President, Patriarch and all the older large frame reels (6.3:1), so they retrieve line at vitually the same rate. The Summit is a smaller frame (similiar to the REVO) than the Supreme, easier to palm and lighter in weight. The new President2, is also a nice reel and a bargain (at the source I'm about to list) but it lacks the magnetic brake adjustment. The Summit has the magnetic brake if you want that feature. Check this guy out, he really helped me replace all my older large frame Presidents & Supremes with the new small frame President2 and Patriarch reels. Happy shopping! http://bobbysfishinrods.com/ |
