mounting a locator
hey guys i need a little help here. i have a two man scamp that i use to fish farm ponds and a few small lakes. i recently bought a fish locator for it and i mounted the bracket for the monitor with no problem, but i don't want to drill holes in it for the transducer and i can't get epoxy to hold it on when i slide it in the water. any suggestions on what i could use? thanks for reading.

Re: mounting a locator
Do you have a trolling motor on it? If so, then mount it to the trolling motor.
If you don't have a trolling motor, then you can actually look into mounting it on the inside. facing down so it will send the signal through the floor. It won't return the strongest signal, but it should work just fine. |

Re: mounting a locator
are we talking a transducer here? if so, we put ours on the lower transom area of the boat, all the way to the right before the back side ends. we just drill thru the boat, then took sealer and sealed the area. works fine.

Re: mounting a locator
kj, is there a place you could clamp a board to your boat? If so mount the transducer to a board and clamp the board to the boat.

Re: mounting a locator
We usually mount the transducer on the bottom of the trolling motor with a clamp
If you can't do that You may have to use a lightweight bracket to mount or hang on the side of the boat.. |

Re: mounting a locator
People drill holes for mounting on their boat all the time. It won't hurt it if done correctly. I personally have had several mounted on my boat, with 2 right now, and no porblems with leaks if sealed correctly.

Silastic the heck out of those holes and they will last long time, its not forever , but you get the idea

Re: mounting a locator
I've got a two man "basshunter" that I turned the trolling motor around and it sits on the front where I can stear it. I mounted my transducer on the bottum of the trolling motor with a big "c" clamp.

Re: mounting a locator
I didn't even think of a trolling motor mount, and I have one!

Re: mounting a locator
The only problem with a trolling motor mount is the depth finder is useless if you are running the lake with the big motor - but in the case of a pond-hopping type deal where the trolling motor will be the big motor that doesn't matter.

Re: mounting a locator

Re: mounting a locator
all you have to do is drill the hole, then cover the whole area with a sealant. we have 2 holes in our boat for the transducer, then 2 for each rod holder we have(which is 4. so that is 10 drill holes all together in our boat, all sealed, with no problem.) 8)
