Will Rooster Tail Lures work for bass? If so, what colors will work best? What lure size?

Most don't bother with in line spinnerbaits but my guess would be a 3/8 rooster tail
I really dont like throwing them for largemouth bass because most of the time when I throw the smaller versions all I get are war mouth blue gills, or other undesirable fish to a bass fishermen. they do have a place in my opinion, its a good river or small stream lure. Also many varities of fish will hit a rooster tail,...I just dont care for them is all lol |

They do catch bass. But as JB said most don't fish them. The reason being the more conventional style spinnerbaits displace more water and are thus considered not as effective in generating reflex strikes. It is usually considered a "numbers" bait meaning it draws strikes from smaller more aggressive bass. But this isn't always true. I was trying to catch some bluegill of a small 1/16 once and caught a five pounder. I would suggest a white.

i seldom use rooster tails, but when the bite is not there, or my stepdad decides to go crappie fishing on a lake that suckes for bass, but has some in there, i will throw a rooster tail. i like them in these times because you can catch just about anything on them, so i will be targeting bass with one, but if i get a few crappie then that is fine, atleast i got something. i have the big rooster tail, not sure the size right now, and its in firetiger.
