Re: the best of mono
Welcome to the site, pull up your computer and stay awhile. As you can see it's winter, and some folks get a little tense during the freeze season. We have talked about lots of lines and different brands. I actually use Trilene XL or Stren in 12lb mono for topwater, cranks, and spinnerbaits. Other than that I use Fireline on everything else. Everyone has their own favorite, be it because that's what they always have fished with, or just don't want to change. I pick out the line, based on the lure I'm using, not because it's mono or Fireline. If you are fishing heavy cover, mono may not be the best line for the job. Keep asking questions, and enjoy the show. Hope you hang around awhile.

Re: the best of mono
Choose a brand & fish it . Everyone has their own favorite brand, but I think they all are pretty good. I have found that some work better on spinning or baitcasters, it seems as though I always use a different brand for the two types of reels. P N J

Re: the best of mono
I use Bass Pro Shops Excel. Â*It's the best line I've ever used. Â*It costs $23.00 for a 5000 yard spool. Â*(10.00 lb test) Â*Slightly less for the same price for heavier, slightly more for lighter. Â*
As far as answering the same question over and over. Â*That's what teachers do. Â*If you don't want to answer, feel free not to. Â*That's what I do if I don't feel like answering. |

Re: the best of mono
I use spinning gear and use Trilene XL and Original Stren. I haven't tried a whole bunch of other brands, but these two have always served me well. If you use spinning, it's especially important to use a limp, easy-to-handle line.

Re: the best of mono
Zooker, how is the memory for Ande and does it have a true breaking weight as listed on the box. I've used Tectan before and if it says 5.9lbs, it breaks at 5.9lbs. I'd guess that since Ande is a world record line, it also breaks at its listed weight.

Re: the best of mono
You guys just don't get it. Stren IS great line. Been using this stuff since I was a kid.
If any one agrees then it's good that you use a good product. It's too bad that a certain person on this site uses Andi. He should try Stren. That'll open his eyes ! Amen, bassnman30 |

Re: the best of mono
i would not use stren if even you were buying it bassman. i have tryed it i used it for a while. then got enlightened. i now use ande-with an E-
earth werm ande has a little -not much- memory, less to none the bigger spools you get. and for a quailty line the premium line is 14.99 bps salt water section this is a 1/2 pound spool. think fill ever reel you own and then some the tournament stuff is higher-don't know why-and in a icky green. i used gun metal, clear, pink, envy green, or back country-if i can find it. zooker

Re: the best of mono
I use Trilene Big Game 10 and 12 lb. when using mono on spinning reels and 12 -15 for baitcasters.
That's for working cranks, topwaters, spinners and buzzbaits. For soft plastics I prefer Vanish flourocarbon. It's more sensitive, has less stretch and sinks much faster than mono which helps alot when fishing in the wind. And, oh yeah.... AMEN! |

Re: the best of mono
well, any more im a light line fisher and the heaviest i throw is about 12 lb test. On my UL i use 4lb stren original, on my L action i use 6 or 8 lb stren original and on my med. action baitcaster i use 12 or 14 lb test trilene xl, found the xl easier to handle on a baitcaster.

Re: the best of mono
Zook, I agree with you on the Stren. Never liked it, never will. I used Trilene for 25 years and never had the first problem. IF you like mono.
As i said before, i wouldn't give a plug nickle for all of it. Gotta be PowerPro. Mono breaks, stretches and is not sensitive. Now please, no more line posts for at least a week. Charles |

Re: the best of mono
I have used Silver Thread AN40 for all of my life and it has been just great. I have tried Ironsilk and PowerPro and Trilene and I just don't like them as well. Of course, this is just for my fishing application. It all depends on what type of fishing you do. Everybody has given responses that are very good. You have quite an assortment to choose from. ;D
I have only been on this site a short time, but I would trust these guys's word,,,,,,they really know their stuff. Catch em up Brian |
