When I throw spinners, cranks and weightless rigs, I would like to cast farther.
Is there any tips or tricks to help, or can you share some ways to add weight to where it won't throw off the action of the lures/bait used? |

Depends on you LINE, REEL, and ROD. Yes there are many things that can help, such as a 7' rod, or smaller diameter line, or a larger spool for spinning gear.

Both...
I have 2 setups Spinning: Abu Garcia Cardinal C106, 12lb. test, on a 7' MH Berkley lighting rod. Baitcasting: Bass Pro Shops Rick Clunn Signature Series Baitcast Reel, 12lb. test, on a Bass Pro Shops 6'6" MH Tourney Special IM-7 Graphite Rod. |

well to throw spinners, cranks and weightless rigs, you might get better distance with a medium rod, and you would definetly get better distance with a 7 footer. i bought a 7' 6" rod for throwing spinnerbaits on lake michigan for smallies, you can cast them a country mile. also make sure when your using your casting rod to make sure you use your wrists instead of your arms when casting, and "load" the rod up. 12lb test on a spinning rig is a little to heavy.

You could try a longer rod or you might need to mess with your reel so it will cast further .

longer rod, and spinning gear. sometimes if your line is old...or brand new it wont cast as far. also if its a high test mono....lets say 20lb mono it cast real far.

Blakemore Reel Magic is supposed to help. I've never used it but I know some that swear by it.

I personally love the stuff. put a light coat on my rifle action before it goes into storage and spray a lil on my reels before every trip. extended my casting distance by about 15 feet consistently. infini-spool spins even more freely and the line doesn't twist as much.

Try Kevin Van Dam's Line and Lure. Much better than Reel Magic. I've used both and find Line and Lure to be the better line dressing. I think Zooker and Bassintom will concur. |

lots of reasons.....the water is clear and if too close the bass will see you....motor noise from you pulling in to the hole.....just basic chit chat on the boat(shore)....footsteps when shore fishing........the list goes on....sometimes casting far is required and nessaccary....

My reel shows that it holds 300+ yards of 12lb. test and I had it spooled at BPS when I bought it.
I went and bought 300 yards of 12lb. test and spooled it myself, guess what, BPS didn' have it fully spooled, probably had 100 yards or less! My question is this, will it being underspooled cause casting issues? I will try it tommorrow to find out if this will be better. I would like more distance as I don't pull my boat al the way to the shore around cover... I don't have a fishing boat and my hull sits very deep. I want to be able to anchor out further and cast to the shore! Plus, if these reels don't cast any farther than a $10 zebco, then what good are they? |

Also if using mono, watch for line twist, which can also create casting problems. BTW there are some serious spincasting reels out there, that can cast a mile nowadays. A Good spinning reel however, with the right set-up SHOULD outcast a spincasting reel. BTW do you have a picture or link to this reel? 300+ yards of 12lb line diameter is a heck of a lot. Are you sure it's not a Saltwater Deep Sea Fishing reel? Lizards |

That reel seems to hold alot of line for bassin' gear. You might want to check and make sure thats not for strippers and cat fish.

http://www.great-lakes.org/reviews/r...-18,25-02.html is a link to it.
It is the 100 series, mine is the 106. It said it holds that much line, but I didn't load it with that much, maybe about 280 yards. I will be casting it today to see the difference. I don't think BPS does a very good job of loading line on reels anyway, I will do it myself from now on... especially if I cast better today!!! ![]() |

I was attacked today by my bait monkey!!!
I was in the store and picked up a g loomis rod for the first time.... I never put it down and after my purchase went straight to the lake with it. I swore I would never pay over $100 for a rod, but this one was worth it. I casted better with it and could feel every bump in the bottom of the lake with it. Now I need one for my spinning reel! : ![]() |

the easiest way to cast further is to move the boat closer to the target

I guess I could just back the boat up and ask the bass if they would like to go for a ride???
You know, trick them into thinking I am their friend. : ![]() |

![]() good question--was thinking the same thing the other day. Fishing from shore and wanted to get my spinner out to deeper water. Can cast a fair distance but would like to get another 15-20 feet if possible---the big fish are no where to be found near shore so they must be in deeper water. |
