What is the trick to spinner baits. I see them used all the time, but I have never had any luck with them. Can some one point me in the right direction?
Thanks http://www.strongermale.com |

Spinnerbaits put off vibrations similar to a swimming baitfish. There is no "trick" to spinnerbaits. With the millions of different spinnerbait configurations available choosing the proper spinnerbait can be difficult. Here are the basics. Use chatreuse skirt in muddy water white in clear. Colorado blades put off more vibration and are usually better in muddy water. Willowleaf blades put off more flash and are usually better in clear water. A 1/2 ounce will handle most situations. Use gold blades when cloudy and silver when sunny. BassDevil gave good advice about the link. You wiil get more respect without it.

Welcome to the forum!
Spinnerbaits are a very versatile bait-You can cover the water from top to bottom. The key is to fish in and around cover. Spinnerbaits are reaction baits, so you want to fish them around cover that can act as an ambush site where fish can grab it as it goes past. |

My favorite way to fish a spinnerbait is on top of lay downs. Don't be scared to throw it into a lay down, just bring the bait up where it barely clears the branches, and retrieve it at a speed that will get the blades turning slow or fast, just experiment. Here is a bass I caught today on a spinnerbait.

There is no wrong way to fish a spinnerbait, fast, slow, deep, or shallow. The most spinnerbait fish I've got are from either slow rolling on the bottom, or with a steady retrieve in midwater along the shoreline. when fishing clear water, I like double-willow, appeals to a fishes sight more. With muddy water I'll either go with colorado or tandem with a big gold blade. As far as stained, but fairly clear water goes, I stick with tandem mostly.

It's a very versatile bait.Burn it,slow roll, fish it like a jig, yo-yo it off of the bottom. It's a bait thatyou can search for fish.If I'm getting skunked,it's my go to bait.Troll down the bank making as many casts as you can into cover or in open water. You'll pick up a fish or two even on the worst days.
