Re: hook setting with jigs
Ohio, Lizards rule uses fireline. He would be the one to ask about it. Flourocarbon has to be wet when tying & cinching the knot. It will become very weak from the friction of cinching the knot tight. In my opinion I would use 14 lb mono or go with 20-30 lb power pro for the lighter jigs you are using. I use 30 lb power pro or 30 lb Tuf- Line braid on all of my jig rods and rattle trap rod, but everyone is different, that is why there are so much fishing stuff to buy. The mono is the cheapest route out and it is proven that it will work ok. Walmart has the 1/4 lb spools of line for like $6.00.If it works, great, if it doesn't , back to the drawing board, you can always use it for spinnerbaits or something else. P N J

Re: hook setting with jigs
Another thing, unlike worm fishing set the hook on the first thump. The first thump is the bass sucking the jig in, the second thump is the bass spitting the jig out. Set the hook whenever in doubt and before long you will be able to tell the difference between a bite and when your jig has simply bumped something.
