Don't know if yall have heard, but the USSC ruled today that in cases involving eminant domain, the economic good of the public can be cause for forcing people to surrender their property.
What this means for all who own land is that their right to their land is subserviant to the anybody who claims that they can operate a business that will bring a few jobs into the community. That is where this decision eventually leads. What this does is give business a coercive crutch - they don't need to behave according to the market - they can always appeal to the government if say walmart wants to buy a farm and the farmer doesn't want to sell. They don't need to respond to the market. The public economic good is the only right recognized. The next step is a planned economy - the government decides who runs what business where. This is the worst decision the USSC has made in 150 years. It is blatant that they are trying to be legislators. They are the agent that has become destructive of our liberties more than any other, and they were the ones originally charged to protect them. |
