line visibility
this year i used sufix braid.last year i used cajun red cast.cajun red cast is the least visible line made besides flourocarbon.this is a fact.i have done a lot of research on this on the web and read many articles by divers and underwater photographers on the subject.red greys out as it goes deeper.translucent red line greys out even faster and becomes camoed in the water making it hard to see.this year on braid i caught 1/2 as many fish as i did last year when i was using cajun red cast.the average size fish was also smaller and i had more 5 lbers last year.i've never been one to think that line visibility mattered but i went fishing the same amount of times at basically the same times as last year.did i just have a bad year or does it really matter?i think i will switch back to cajun red cast and see what happens this coming season.

I don't know Dodge.....I'm a Stren Superbraid man now. If you want to combine the two, Power Pro now makes a red braid.

me too! i use berkley big game and i like it,i am trying yo zuri hybrid in a couple of weeks for my soft plastics. i think that line visibility isnt that big of a factor except in really clear water, like 10+ft. i think that zooker uses high visibility ande, which is like a bright green color. i think that the presentation is alot more important than line color or lure color. talk to zooker and do a forum search for line colro or line visibilty,or maybe even line. i know that there have been some really good disscusions on this subject.

knowing the water that mopar fishes they have a 8+ feet visability. the thinner more translucent cajun line would work better..i personlly have had big fish spook off braided line in clear water.. mopar if you looking for better feel try fireline the smoke color will almost disappear in them waters.. zooker

Dodge, I think you should go back to the Cajun redcast... Before, I was using trilene. Now I'm on redcast and catch quite a few more.

line??
Billy Westmoreland used GOLDEN line in the "GIN CLEAR" lakes he fished for smallmouth so he could detect a bite. I once asked him at a show if he used the golden line so he could see where his jig was while giving his seminar and to quote him " fish school usually by size, they don't go to school " and don't know what line is. bigbasser

The golden line is probably Stren. I used it uears back and you can really see if a fish breathes on it.
I'm going to start using a fluoro leader on braid in the clear water lakes I fish-Flyrod does an it seems to make a difference. I'll go with straight braid in stained/muddy water.

I like clear line, you can see it easier above the water, but it disapears under water. I just got a spool of P-Line Evolution, fished it twice, I like it, but the silver gray color is difficult to see well above the water, but you definately feel the bites, even in 52 feet of water.P N J

the only thing I hated about usin g PowerPro was when fishing weightless plastics...it seemed to kill the baits action somewhat. That and the line would be floating on the water and I hated that. I do like PP with spinnerbaits and jigs and such, but yeah I guess I learned my own lesson with weightless lures...use Yo-Zuri or Red Cast.

dang zooker, your always giving me a hard time Mopar is a good fisherman, and he fishes what he likes. I fish what I like. Fair is fair And if you don't like braid, well then keep fishin with mono. I have no problem with any of the folks fishing with what they like, why do you keep harping on me about fishing with what I like. Where's my mommy
All kidding aside, for those of you who don't know. Let me state this for the record I PERSONALLY DON"T THINK LINE VISIBILITY HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH CATCHING BASS. Now this is MY OPINION ONLY, and as you can tell many disagree with me wholeheartedly. So be it. Lizards

Sorry Dodge didn't mean to confuse ya. You said that this year you used suffix braid and last year you used cajun red cast. What I was saying was since you like braid and cajun red is well......red. Power Pro is makes a red braided line, so you can have the best of both worlds. Sorry if I was confusing. IMO I would just throw them both away and buy some Stren super braid.....LMAO

New to the forum. I read on another forum that the PP red bleeds like a stuck pig and is hard to get off of you and the boat. No personal experience.

JB, got to agree with LR, considering the deep voirs and stained water you fish. Next year could be totally different (good or bad). I think we both agree that the basic line qualities we look for are in this order:
1. abraision resistance/ constistent line and knot strength 2. Low stretch 3. lowest diameter possible for a particular pound test 4. supple enough not to impede lure action 5. visibility for clear water (maybe) BTW, Happy New Year! |

If red 'greys out' and becomes 'camoed' in deeper water, why do they have red color on baits? Surely, if red cannot be seen by a fish they wouldn't have red lures???
Anyone know? |

I agree with lizardsrule somewhat. If fish see your line they may think something is fishy but something already is fishy, they are.

because that only works in shallow water before the red greys out.i've read a lot of articles on the subject that support this.a translucent red mono will dissapear before a solid red powerpro because the light travels through the translucent line.
