Default River Tournament Fishing

For all you river/flowage fisherman out there:

What would you consider to be your favorite, most productive baits and locations for targeting prespawn bass in a river system.

My first Club tourney is on a flowage (one I grew up on) so I have a few key spots that have produced since I was 12. Now with a boat to prefish in and a boat for tourney (although as a co-angler) I'll be stretching my areas looking for backwater largies and main channel/flat smallies.

I always have had good luck in the backwaters,1-5' of water just off the channel.
Black and blue jig or green pumpkin texas rigged tube, and fish the cover methodicly.
If there is cloud cover you may try a buzz bait or a spook early in the morning.
I have also had good results form a husky jerk silver blue and gold black in the spring on the channel.
I am no expert but I have fished the mississippi river from pool 9 to 13 for 20+ years.

river fishing success always comes down to current breaks. Find the breaks, you find the bass.
