Re: BIG BASS need help
well, first off are you sure its 12+ lbs? alot of things look bigger in the water then they really are. try big lures. cast them out and reel them in front of the bass, dont reel them towards the bass but parrellel to it. big lures. also, try a reaction strike by trying a buzzbait over the bass. sometimes they wont bite. i noticed you said night. is this just a phrase or actually at night? if at night i would go with a JITTERBUG in black. right over the bass.

Re: BIG BASS need help
I am sure it was 12+because he was up in reall shallow water and his hole back was out of the water. it was when the sun was going down like 20 min. before dark. ;D

Re: BIG BASS need help
Try a white tube or lizard, or a craw. You might need to aggrivate her into biting.

try throwing a spinnerbait. use a good under hand roll cast and drop it right on his head.

Re: BIG BASS need help
I don't think any of these other posts are gonna help. But, this happened to me about a week ago. No doubt this thing's layin eggs and they usually don't bit much when they're doing that. EXCEPT, lizards and crawdads because they eat the bass's eggs. I caught my 6 lb-er off a plastic crawdad. Good luck!

they dont bite when they are spawning ??? thats about the easiest time to catch them, and on anything, as long as you get it on their nest, and it is big enough to make the fish feel threatened. |

Re: BIG BASS need help
Try a big weightless lizard, im talking like a 8-10 incher, I do well with those during the spawn, just drag it real slow along the bottom and hold on, I like black with red flecks. also it is hard to beat a soft jerkbait slowly falling in front of there face. good luck.

Re: BIG BASS need help
It is probably a female guarding her nest and if something is in the way long enough, she will try to get it out of the way. If you can get a drop shot stuck in something near her eventually she will become aggravated and try to move it out of the way. When she does take it, you will have 2 set the hook quick before she spits it out of her mouth.

naw man, yesterday a bass about 2-3 lb bit a craw, but it spit it out real fast. But yeah, i asked my neighbor, he said bass only bite lizards and craws and from experience i can see that that is true.

Re: BIG BASS need help
ya, thats what they do, they will suck the bait in, and spit it out in a second. they are getting it away from their nest. you have to be really quick on the hookset, i have caught a lot of bass this past weekend using tiki dipstiks, spinnerbaits, and zoom trick worms. all bass were on beds, except a few done with spawn. but this just proves that bass will hit almost anything on their bed, it might take one or two times to get them to strike, but they will. i think the only thing they wont hit, would be a really small bait. they have to feel threatend. just keep casting to the bed, with a good sized worm or spinnerbait, or something good like that, untill she hits. then once you hook her, reel her in fast, dont play her, and get the hook out and photo her fast and get her back into the water. this all has to be done fast, you dont want to cause the bass any stress. you will get her.
