I would have to say a hot foot is safer for a couple of reasons.
You can keep both hands on the wheel at all times, assuming you have your trim mounted either on your steering wheel, or even better on one of the new "turn signal" type switches. And if you are thrown from the boat and for some reason or other you kill switch doesn't work, a hot foot will bring your engine back to idle speed. You won't have to worry so much about either being hit by your own circling boat, or about a driverless boat hauling across the water to God only knows where. A "must have" for any high performance boat, and a good addition to any boat with a remote helm. It will only take you a little while to get used to one. |

Call me old fashioned but I like the hand throttle better. I only owned 1 nitro boat with it on but here the water is rough alot and the twenty footer should not have been spearing the waves like it did., I wasn't experienced enough to keep the speed the same to skip the wave crests with out getting in trouble as I could with a hand throttle control.I did fall in love with the trim button on the steering wheel though.I am back to primitive aluminum and no trim or tilt on small 25hp motor and it is as fun with out all of the things to control, just go fishing with out it costing you alot of money to get out on the water, I can put that boat in places I would never dreamed of with the good boats I had.

The hot foot is better cause it frees up your hands alot more. So you can tie on a new bait when changin spots. ;D

How do you put a boat in reverse with a hot foot? If you press it down to make it go forward then do you pull it towards you with your foot? Or is there a seperate gear changing switch?

you keep the shift lever,only the throttle cable is now connected to the foot pedal.

The one problem that I can see is that you must get used to a Hot Foot vs the hand throttle.
