My first encounter with a 10 pounder took place while fishing a Rapala Minnow, have caught plenty of fish with them and during the prespawn they are lethal.

If your considering jerk baits I would recommend that you build up the strength in your arm each time you go out...to the beginner 45 minutes of jerking that rod(you know the one i mean lol) can give your forearm a charlie horse

I love them, and have great success with them! My favorite jerkbait is a floating Smithwick Rogue.

Love them, especially in the early spring. One of the best baits to catch cold water smallmouth here in Connecticut during the prespawn. When fish won't hit a tube or smaller hair jig and you have to provoke a reaction strike, hard jerkbaits are the ticket! Also work well in warmer water, when jerked really erratically in many of the clear lakes we have here in CT.

I've had good success on them all year. First of all, the 2 jerkbaits I use are Husky Jerks and now X-Raps. I ALWAYS have a jerkbait rigged on my rod all year around. In spring and fall, I fish them real slow (the advantage of suspending baits) In summer, I jerk the heck out of the rod to get reaction strikes and it is deadly.
Last early, early spring I caught 32 bass in a tournament on a #10 Glass minnow husky jerk...Even though only five of them were legal, it was still a blast and gave my a nice finish in the tourney. Catch em up Brian |

I agree, I use them in the colder months which is very many months in southern mississippi. I can't pass up the great top-water action in the summer

i have recently acquired(SP?)a jerk bait, thanks PNJ. it is the rapala floater in ghost minnow and its action in the water is great. i saw a commercial for the new jerkbait made by strike king that was designed by KVD, it looks very good.
