Sammys Jimmys Spooks Part Duex
I should have posted this with part one. Need a rod to handle these type baits. Have read from 6ft 6 m to 7ft mh. Fast tip to xfast. A little confused. Something under $200. Also your line choices.

I have a 6' medium SPINNING rod that I do all my spook fishing on. I have more success on the Spook Jr's, and they're too light for me to fish on my baitcaster. Also, having learned the walk-the-dog technique on spinning tackle, it's hard for me to relearn it up-side-down.

i use a short rod -6'3''- with a short mid handle. it is -was- a mh till i broke the tip off.-damn ceiling fans- it works great for me.. a big key is to get a rod short enough. that you wont hit the water with it when you walk the dog..
i use a lefty reel on mine 14 pound mono as it floats better.. zooker

Unscented Alboline works wonders on line to make it float. Available at some drugstores, comes in a fairly large jar....great for treating the last ten feet of line applied with a small rag.
Alboline is originally produced at a face cleansing product, but had been used by flyfishermen for years to make both dry flies and fly leaders float. For the tackle box, some of the little 35 mm film canisters with the snap on lids are great. Keep an extra one for the little square rag pieces and you'll be set. |

I use Mono for all my topwater applications. Also, I don't do much in the way of frogs except a bronzeye occasionally over the slop in a local reservior. (I thought I should mention this because froggin' has become a very popular topic here.)

Gotta go with zooker here, the shorter the rod the better, except I would prefer a medium rod, probably 6'. I don't have any by the way, thanks for letting the monkey remind me rotflmao. Lizards

I use an 6' 6 med action Setyr rod and 20 pound power pro on sammy, spook baits, and pop r . I like braid for long cast and braid floats and has very low stretch so you can work the bait good on long cast and have an good hook set also.

Ok, how does this sound. I have a Berkley Cherrywood 5ft 6in med.I picked up at Wall Mart a while back real cheap. I'll start with that and see how it goes for the topwaters. I do use braid for frogs and toads mostly. I'll just take 2 reels when I go out next season. One with braid and one with mono. See which I like better and go from there on both line and the rod.

I use a custom built 5'10" mh St. Croix Fiberglass blank for my topwaters. I also use 17lb Tri XL. Add to it a ABU Torno 3004 HS.
The rod allows them to suck it down and with the right hand retrieve I hold the rod in my left hand which is slower than my dominant right hand. This also slows down those nervous twitches that happen. |

G3 - Setyr - they're no longer around??? Correct??? or am I thinking of another rod?
If it's the same brand I'm thinking of then I have a source for one or two custom rods. |

You guys think a 7' ML rod is good for topwaters? Not just Spooks and jimmys and such, but for popper, buzzbaits and my favorite night time topwater: the jitterbug.

I use a 7ft for topwater baits and a 6'6 for frogs.Open water mono suffix siege and the grass i will use the braid and heavier rod to get the fish out quick.I like my kistler rods but have a cheap 6'6 shakespear i love for spinnerbaits.Oh it is hard to walk the dog good with the 7 footer unless you have a high deck to fish off.

The rod I plan to get, a St.Croix 7'0''; Heavy/Fast; "Slop 'N' Frog". I am going to use it mainly for flippin' and topwater frogs like the Horny Toads, Buzz Frogs, Sizmic Toads, etc. I think I will also use it for walkin' the dog and Spook's too. I think I'm gonna go with 50LB Suffix Ultra-Braid.
