Default Asian Carp threatening Bass populations

Anyone else see that piece on espn about asian carp in the Mississippi river, apparently there moving up the river and alsoto a threat the great lakes, it showed some pretty interesting footage of how the noise and motion of boat motors cause them to jump from the water, just wondering if anyone saw this piece, what they thought, and if these fish are actually as great of a threat as they made them seem?

Saw it. They should find a better method of catching them than sticking out puny nets hoping for one to jump in by chance.

I read somewhere-think it was Bassmaster-that they are setting up an electrified fence of some kind to stop the progression. Not sure if that is the case or not-hope it is and it is working..

its not boats that force carp from water they do it by themselfs. and they are pretty skiddish so i would see that a lady would get hit in the head to many more times.

Big Koi are worth big $$$. Say for a 10 pounder you could get like 500$ or more easy.

02, I think you mean "invasive" species. Bass a lot of time are an evasive species-they evade our hooks ;D

Koi were created by the japs to be ornamental pond fish, and thats why they are still worth so much today. If they die, its fertilizer - they are only worth cash alive. Just how you get the money out of them might depend, we have a water garden store here in town that I'm sure could point me in the right direction were I to happen on to some of the large koi - they have a few there with 1000$ price tags swimming around.

Yes Koi are big dollars in the industry down here in Fla. I speak from experience! If you could get them you got some money for the bait money! One other thing I would check to see if your state will offer rewards to turning in some of these fish! Some states do offer rewards to help stop invasive species it only like 10 or 20 but that can be alot for some of the teens on here like me!

yeah 10 or 20 bucks isnt much of an insentive to me.

but 500 is

but going to the trouble to get a tank large enough to keep a big koi alive and being able to keep the water oxygenated in the tank while fishing and transporting the tank full of water in my car, then finding someone who would even want the thing, and then somehow getting it to them seems like a problem.

i am curious if they will put upa good fight though, cause most carp dont really fight, obviously its not a carp but i think their related?

well then you and me are different there...i would get a cooler....get a portable bubble pump thing(puts oxygen into water, not sure the name)....put the fish in it.....(o ya, first find a place that will take these) then drive to the place and give it to them......i think its worth it for 500$ cooler are 30....those little bubble pumps are 20.....drive to the place and caching!!

My buddy has a small pond in his yard stocked with Koy. The will feed on worms and other insects. Some say carp are fun to catch but I think any kind of carp are bad.
