Removing Carpet

Hello everyone it has been a long time, I need some of yall's expertise.
I am replacing the carpet in my boat & need some help on how to get the glue up. I have the carpet ripped out just having a heck of a time getting the glue up. I am using a puddy knife to scrape it it off but it doesnt seem to be working that well.

Do any of yall have any suggestion on how to get the glue up?

Aluminum or fiberglass boat? If aluminum I would try going over it lightly with a heat gun. If its fiberglass, DON'T USE A HEAT GUN.

I would almost be afraid to use acetone or paint stripper, there could be a possibility that it would react with the glass. I say if you are going to recarpet over the old glue and not know the difference, don't worry about it - if it does bug you enough though, you could try just testing the acetone or paint stripperon a spot of the fiberglass that is not going to hurt the integrity of the boat if something does happen.

There is a product at autozones that is called something like airplane paint remover - the stuff is super strong, might not be a good idea cosnidering the boat is glass, but it may soften the glue if all else fails.

DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT USE AIRPLANE PAINT REMOVER, it is WAY too caustic.
Â* Â* Â*I think a putty knife is too limber, go to an automative store and buy a gasket scraper. It looks like a screwdriver but the edge is very wide and sharpened like a knife. This will have the backbone to get down and scrape the crud loose. I would only get the chunks off, and get it fairly smooth and then put another coat of glue and replace the carpet. If it is too uneven, and the glue has dried hard, then you could sand it well with a vibrator sander and 80 grit paper.
