My Version of the Punch Skirt
So I had posted some pics of fish I had caught on my "punch skirt" which in this thread I will call the Rigging Skirt, cause it can be used for so much more then punching.
I've tried a couple ways so far, but my favorite and most productive so far is the Skirted T-rig. I start this out with a sinker stop (any will work, I use the BPS ones cause I can get them locally and they're cheap). Then I slide on my bullet weight. In this one, I'm using a 3/16, but an 1/8oz would have been fine. Then slide on the rigging skirt and tie on a hook. On this rig I'm using a 5/0 Owner Twistlock hook with a Yamamoto Swimming Senko in watermelon green pumpkin. I fish this just like a would a normal t-rig, and even swim a little like a swimjig. A few problems with the rigging skirt are that it is just a jig skirt, so the line is hard to get through it. I ended up sticking the hook through and catching the barb on a loop of line and pulling it through. Another problem is since it's not molded to a bead like the real Punch Skirt, the silicone material tends to bunch up to one side instead of staying evenly distributed. Now that I know they work good, I may add a couple real punch skirts on to my my next TW order. BB

How badly does it get torn up when you catch a fish?

Surprisingly, not very torn up at all. In fact, that skirt in the picture has caught about 10 fish and isn't missing much silicone at all. Maybe a few strands, but nothing noticeable.
Even more surprisingly, that swim senko has caught two fish and isn't completely torn up yet! I think the spring keeper helps keep the senkos together better. the previous one, which had been t-rigged a bit earlier in the year caught 8 fish before I took it off, and I only took it off because I couldn't texpose the hook point anymore. Good thought and that was the first thought that crossed my mind. BB, great tinkering there. I wonder how it would work if I tied on skirt or other material(s) onto the hook. And darn you too. I told myself that I wasn't going to buy them swimmin' ones, and now I have to.

If you need more motivation to buy them I've heard that you can cut off the tail part and it is a great swim jig trailer, prolly work well on a spinnerbait too.

Take a smaller straw like the ones used for coffee, cut to length and push into skirt, then run your line threw the straw.

Punch skirts are great but if you have skirts that you use with jig heads, spinnerbait, or buzzbaits you can just get Punch Hubs and use your existing skirts. |
