Default live bait

i've heard no one talk about shiners and a bobber? i've used this many times and i just put a medium or large shiner on th ehook, slide a bobber about 4 feet up and cast. i've had pretty good luck with them, is there a reason no one has said anything about them or does anyone else know any better way to fish with them?

i would say that anyone can throw a shiner out and catch a fish, but it takes more skill using lures (which lure to use, when, figuring out the presentation, etc)

Actually if you ever watch Roland do it on tv it sure looks fun, he uses balloon for a bobber and a nice size shiner in the reeds in fla.
If using live bait gets a new angler hooked on bass fishing, I have nothing against it.
The pro's only use artificial and all of us do here to, but I bet everyone at one time or another has caught fish on live bait.
Theres nothing better than crappie fishing with jigs , tubes , or have several lines in the water with minnows an bobber, the big ones fight just as good as a bass.

not exactly that easy, you still have to locate the bass, or at least locate an area that attracts bass. You just leave the presentation to the shiner instead of shaking your worm with your pole.

i prefer them 1-3 inches. Any bigger than that and the spines on the dorsal fins are bigger and more developed, i don't think bass like the bigger blue gills as much for this reason.

oh, and minnow traps baited with bread this time of year quickly fill up as the blue gill spawn wasn't too long ago.

Plastic worms and salamanders work for me, but nigh crawlers always do it. Oh yeah and by the way, I bought a dozen of Neon (Green) nightcrawlers in MN once. $7 for a dozen, it wokred all right pretty decent but want my money back ;D
