lure retriever?
i think thats what they are called, correct me if im wrong.. seen it on a fishing show a week or so ago, you slide this contraption down your line and it will knock your lure free if it's hung up or snagged on something..have any of you guys used them? are they worth the investment? (i cant see them being that expensive ,really) the one thing i see happening though is if you slide it down and it doesnt knock it free then you lost the retriever too when you end up having to cut the line anyways..right? anyways, i was just wondering about it, cause i lost one of my favourite lures cause it got hooked up on a log :'(

Re: lure retriever?
Those things really work, and it pays back the first time you use it. Its not easy that you lost the retriever, it has a very strong rope so you may pull out the log in the one you lost your favorite lure.

Re: lure retriever?
i use a extention handled plug knocker with a spring on the end it will exstend out about 18 feet. the rope type will work very well indeed but if you make a really bad cast -we have all done it- and put the lure in to a tree. i can just reach up and rip it out of the tree or bush. i have retrived a ton of baits thrown up in trees. enough to more than pay for the retriver. which i bought the day after i bought my first lucky craft lure.

Re: lure retriever?
they are worth the money, but they won't work 100% of the time. There have been times that I've had too much line out and not enough line on the retriever, times when the line is out to far and the retriever won't go down any further. I managed to pull out 2 lures one time, the lure I hung up, and somebody elses lure that was hung in the same bush. Course their hooks were a little rusty.

Re: lure retriever?
My old fishing partner had the Hound Dawg retriever from bass pro and saved hundreds of lures,, it does take some practise tho, pulling up on the weight and letting it hit several times before the lure breaks free..

Re: lure retriever?
I made one out of a 6 oz. surf sinker. This is the sinker:
and here is the finished product: I bent one of the times into a hairpin shape, cut the other three off, add a big snap swivel to the wire loop, tie a line to the wire loop and you are good to go. I put the line on an old reel to keep it from tangling. Here is how I use it: |

Re: lure retriever?
Lets hope it doesn't happen eh
I have broken bills of of stickbaits by digging them in to the pea gravel all day, but more often than not a bill is broken by the cast that misses the water and hits a rock on shore lol |
