Flippin stick!

Me and a buddy went fishin Sunday Mornin on the Mighty Mississippi just up river from lock n dam No. 11. I started the morning throwing a buzz bait through the lily pads in some back water. I was getting a descent number of hits but 3/4 of the fish were missing the buzz bait. After the sun got up there I switched to a black and red Mann's jig with a 2.5 inch yum crawdad and started fishing some timber piles and Grassy over hanging shorelines with some current. We did good, but I lost a lot of fish due to the not having a true flippin stick. I need to buy a nice 7 ft med hev rod with a baitcaster but I can't spend a lot a money on it right now. Anyone have any ideas on a cheaper, but dependable, set up for around 90 bucks.

a medium-heavy would not be a true flipping stick.i use an allstar im10x big boys 6-10 inch jig pitching rod.it has enough balls to pull out any bass out of anywhere.

ranger, i don't know exactly what your looking for, but a 7' MH or a 7'6" mh is fine for flipping and pitching.use 30lb braid to cut through the weeds and you should be alright.the rod tip must have some flex to it to pitch and flip without alot of rod movement to get the jig under motion.i reccomend not getting a rod rating over 11/2oz. lure weight, the rod will be too stout for all but extreme heavy cover and then a bigger fish is able to tear off easier than on a flexable tipped rod. i hope this helps.p n j

I'd just save your money and get better at setting the hook. A flipping stick is probably just a heavier and longer version of what you are using now, I went through several flipping sticks, my mistake on the first was the weight, it tends to get heavy after a few hours, and just because you changed rods doesn't necessarily
equate to more hookups.
I'd recommend you sharpen your hooks and reel down a few times before you pull up Hard to set the hook.
I fish with the same All Star rod as mentioned before , had one stolen and replaced it with a 6ft 6 MH and have no complaints.
