Offshore structure or deeper points... Usually the biggest bass I catch or see being caught are caught on humps, long points, and other stuff that doesn't get tons of pressure. The lake I fish has a lot of pelagic bait, the biggest smallmouth on the lake are caught every year by striper fisherman pulling bait. Our big smallies and sometime largemouth will suspend 20-30 feet over 50 - 100 feet.

I don't know exactly, because I ain't caught any really big bass yet.I caught a 7.1 lb largemouth on a jig in 4 ft. of water during ice out in the spring. She was up against the cattails in a feeder creek in April.A few years ago in June I caught a 6.4 lb smallmouth bass on a weededge in 10 ft of water on a yumdinger(senko type). I do not think it was any type of pattern to go by though. P N J

I've caught them off a single log before and I've caught them out of an area full of weeds.

If you can find a single log IN a patch of weeds, target that! (Just be careful not to hook the structure, you'll scare them. Jig/weedless worm rig)

That's the million dollar question ;D. Theres a reason why they are BIG. Mostly I would say either the heaviest cover you can find, be it vegetation or wood, preferably both, or they are deep either suspending or on some type of structure say a hump/droppoff/road bed. I would say it's easier to catch a BIG bass at night.

Just to confuse things a little further. Â*My biggest bass (8 1/2 lbs) came on bassically a sandy beach swimming area with clay below it between two docks. Â*I had noticed a couple of years earlier that the floor of that area was chock full of 5" to 6" crawdads coming back in from deep water to get to their shoreline shelter..beneath a retaining wall. Â*I knew there would be bass around but had know idea that thing would be there. Â*I was on the bank and she hit about 4 or 5 feet out from where I was standing. Â*On a brown mudbug.

I hit fallen timber, underwater stumps and brushpiles. T-rigged worm or jig as a weapon of choice.
