Default tough choice

the wife is going to india on a business trip for 2 weeks in feb.this means hardly any fishing while she is gone and lots of quality time with the kids.
however....
after negotiations between her and i(i didn't want her to go)i end up with a week of fishing ANYWHERE in the continental U.S.whenever i want.
i've fished fla.,texas,conn,N.C.,N.Y.,Pa.,Md.,Va.,
she suggested Calif.i say either texas(again) or fla.(again).
if YOU had a choice like this, what would you choose?

i do not want to go north.

Florida, Texas and California are all the obvious places. But if you are in the mood for something different....

Lake Powell
Mississippi Delta
Mobile Delta
Miami Canals (peacock bass)

Im kinda preferential to FL, WTL does have a good point w/ the peacock bass down in the S. Fl canals. Ive been thinking about trying that myself. 8)

I wouldn't go to CA just because there are too many clear lakes and I prefer a little stain to the water. Just my preference. I'll be hitting Lake O in FL in April, or perhaps even Stick Marsh. Should be making my arrangemnets in the next couple of weeks. Maybe you can hook up with me down there ;D

I'd have to say go with florida. The fact that there are so many good lakes within 2 hours of eachother makes it well worth the trip. Kissimme, Toho, St. Johns, Stick Marsh, Istakpoga, Big O, WInterhaven chain, Butler chain, .... etc. ALthought WTL has a good point about peacocks in miami, you can also catch largemouth, snook, and tarpon in those canals which would make it a really cool trip.

Florida. If you have a week you can go fishing in a bunch of lakes in that time.

What about Alabama ??? Â*If it were me, I would be hooking up with lakeguide and try to get on Guntersville and some of the other fine lakes down there.

My second choice would be Indiana, the proverbial diamond in the rough!

FLorida, go south, fish for bass, peacocks, snook, tarpon, and all sorts of other junk in these canals. But if you go, spend at least one day offshore for dolphin, sailfish, marlin and bottom fish. Not as much lure technique, but they fight way harder in the salt.

Tom,

It doesn't seem fair. Your wife gets to go oversees and you have to stay in the continental U.S. I would push for somewhere in Central America or Mexico and go Peacock bass fishing. Heck you may end up paying less then if you stayed stateside. I also have to agree with creekgeek (it's a Hoosier thing ;D) about Alabama and Lakeguide Larry just because he's the nicest guy in the world. At least with him you know you'll be in good company and get your money's worth even if the fishing isn't what it is in Florida, Texas, or California.

coming from cal where i absolutely love to fish, I would have to choose lake El Salto in mexico or florida. El salto is not cheap but the bassin is nothing less than incredible. Florida probably has the best variety of lakes in a short distance if you wanted to change it up a little. well tough decision good luck. .......... Scott R

Zook,
I agree, the lake line up is bad news. Man I would have put alot of the lakes in better times.
Granted, some aren't so bad but some (like you say) Highrock in June, give me a break. I think maybe the problem is that this past year we had it in Mar.. Guess who won.
We have a new rule, no lakes can be fished more than once a year. Thats a lowsy rule as well.

i would go with florida. because there is so much variety. also the lakes are close together and u could go out for saltwater fishing for a day. if u decide to go in winter u wont have to deal with cold weather.
