Actually I like fishing for sea run shad. I might have given him some advice if he hadn't started acting like a doofus right off the bat.

A three or four pound Hickory or American shad, fresh from the sea, hooked on light tackle will give you the fight of your life. They make drag screeching runs, and jump like a tarpon. Actually we call 'em "poor boys tarpon".

Cajun,
I have heard they are pretty impressive fighters, I would like to catch one on my ultra-light rig .

well i happen to like shad, only i catch mine in a cast net, put them on a hook and troll them for striper. HA shad are cool they make great bait. but if you like catching fish as fragile as canned sardines then i guess your leaving more bass for me!

I don't think we're talking about the same fish here you see. Â*Yea, they're all "shad" but that's sort of like saying "dog". Â*Dogs come in all different sizes, and kinds. Â*So do shad.

Check out a few of the pictures here.

I think you'll notice there aren't many "sardines" there.
