Personnel best today
WE hit the Richmond reservoir at 5:30 this morning and cut across to some good looking points, water temp was 72 , air temp was 59.
After yesterdays post about spinner baits, and one poster claiming that big fish dont hit them, made me think, I had a Ky. Lake chartreuse double willow blade with painted blades , white and some chartreuse, with a black eye on the big blade as I described yesterday in a post. I put a new skirt on it, and a 3 inch lemon chafon grub from Kalin on it, and started throwing it. Denny and I had worked about 100 yards of shoreline, the water was almost choc. milk colored due to the rain. Super murky.. We had the boat out about 25 ft and throwing top waters for a few minutes and then finally switched to the spinner bait, I got bite! At first I thought I was hung up, I raised the rod straight up again and really pulled hard, this time my line streaked to the right and off she went! I knew I had a big one on.... Well she fought and went around the back of Denny's boat, we had the motor pulled up , I got a good look at here and creamed my jeans.. She fought for what seemed forever, I yelled at denny to get the net, he dug one out , now I had to keep playing it, side to side, a few more dives, the entire time I was thinking "Ya know this is the same junk 10lb test you were *****ing about last week" lol...but it held tight! I finally was able to direct her towards the net and Denny got it, almost yelled Jesus F/n christ when I saw her.. I knew she was over 8 lbs.. I had caught a 7 and many 6 or 5's and had weighed many at tourneys, I knew this was going to be my best ever after 24 years of bass fishing.. We got the golden rule and I measured 22 inches long, and 17.2 around..it was the fattest bass I had ever seen, certainly not the longest, but I got to wondering how big she could have been with eggs during the spawn... Well , I almost always carry a digital camera with me, last time I left it in Denny's rod locker, so this time I didn't think we'd need it ..WRONG! lol We tried to put it in the live well but due to a partition it wouldn't fit, plus I swore years ago I'd never mount one. The dang lower jaw lip on this fish was a good 5/8 inch wide, and the bass's color was extremely light, white with some green. The reservoir is about 29 feet and we were in probably 12 feet..it came out of the deep .. Caught another on the same spinner and one more chubby one on the DD22.. but by 11 we were hungry and come home MAN I LOVE BASS FISHING (still have wood ) lol JB |

Re: Personnel best today
And were your hands shaking so bad you could have threaded the needle on a running sewing machine?
Wish you had your camera-would have loved to see a pic of that one. Regardless, Congrats! Even better, you have Denny as a witness ;D |

Re: Personnel best today
Yup I am going to start carryin Depends on the boat from now on....
I am still amazed at how big and well developed her jaw was , felt like a horseshoe.. The guy at the ramp asked Denny if that fish has lots of hook marks in it, He has seen lots that size over there, but usually in spring, The villiage idiot at work lives over that way and is always talking about 8 lb + bass in the early spring, and over the last 20 years I had heard of people getting them , sometimes by accident crappie fishing, heres a pic of the spinnerbait an me |

Re: Personnel best today
A cement worker (kevin thorpe) hit on this combo in the mid 90's at Ky. lake... I used to have 3 of them but this is the last one I have left, I forget that brand name but its a common one, I hope to find it again..
I probably wouldn't have even got it out if it hadn't been for thinking about it on here friday...this forum have got me thinking again lol This spinner moves so slow, I was watching denny throw about twice to my once , only because its a slow mover, I guess that giant grub slowed it down. The skirt was bunched up at the rubber band holder last night, I never fixed it, if you note on the pics BTW...my pic is good for ridding cockroaches and scares X-old ladies if ya need it, feel free to use it...not bad for a guy 50 huh LOL |

Re: Personnel best today
pnj thanks!
Your right I remember now we went to Benton Ky and than Paducah wall mart and got those Renegades.. thanks for helping me remember, I had used that blade up here for years with limited success, It did great in early spring in ky, I am sure lucky it wasn't one of the blades that rusted out on me sitting all those years in the basement while i was idle A new skirt on it, and last night during the last 20 laps of the busch nascar race, I was sitting there sharpening the hooks on that spinner, as well as a jitterbug, and a gold trap that jitterbug looked good in the dark this morning, it got light out really fast, I worked it for about 20 minutes. I am going to prove to myself that it catches fish..its just a matter of time I dug out the ol DD22 that david fritts used years ago, a bright chartreuse and white with speckled flake on it. Its so big It feels like a bluegill every time you reel it in. 3rd cast on it got me a nice fat 13 incher I let Denny reel that DD22 in once just for the feel of it, I think its wobble and resistance amazed him.. heres one in another color, the bait is really huge, much bigger than this pic dictates 8) |

Re: Personnel best today
zook,
Â*Denny has a bass tracker alum. boat, and the live well was about 12 x 30, however there was a partition in the middle about making it 15x12 on both sides, the bass wouldn't fit, plus we tried like hell to get the partition out, but you would have to remove the decking to do it... I got a good look at her, threw her back in, then started cussing cus this is first trip i didnt take camera, the wife was using it last night for pics of cats lol it probably wouldn't hurt to carry a cheapie disposable one DENNYS BOAT |
