Default Tube baits

well i think i have to get some tubes, (i see those referred to alot in here), i actually had a few in my tackle box but never tried them before until yesterday...i actually caught a small pike on it, so i want to get some more. now as far as colors go, can i assume its pretty much along the same color schemes as other plastic baits when going after bass?
the 2 or 3 i have are brown w/ small black flake.

Mostly they are used to try to mimick crawdads, so greenpumkin, some reds tints, any darker colors are the norm. Now with that said, I've seen white work real well, especailly for a follow up to a missed strike on a topwater bait such as a buzzbait.

A large variety of colors will work. One of the colors I use regularly is very similar to the one you described and it should be fine.

White tube baits are the ticket up at Lake St. Clair, the lake is just north of lake erie
and Full of smallmouth. all the locals us the white tube on a jig head
As far as down here, the jigheaded tube is popular in a mossy mix of dif greens and brown craw as previously stated by other posters

What all have ya heard being used to stuff a tube?
I talked to some jiveass truck driver today about fishing and he started speeling off ideas like putting a rubber worm of one color in a tube that is a dif color......i am thinking what the hell? I know in the past anglers would stuff scented bait goo over cotton balls and stuff it in the tube for scent attraction, that made sense, I had heard of alka selzer tabs in them too..
any of you heard of these variations?
???

Personally I think it takes away from the collasping of the tube as you set the hook :

but there are times when the longer profile would be beneficial, all boils down to CONDITIONS!

Learned a little trick from the guy that got Lizards hooked on Bass Fishing last weekend. He was using a white tube and skipping it up next to the bank and then just letting it fall. Twitch it a couple of times and boom he gets a strike as he's showing me how to do this. By skipping the tube it resembles a shad busting the top and gets the bass' attention. By letting it fall it resembles and injured shad which looks like a free meal to the bass. Makes sense to me.

I'll admit I dont use tubes all that often
I have used them to skip a tube under docks tho and as stated before that is a good summer time presentation, plus it saves getting your lure hung up on a pontoon boat

JB

I have used the technique of stuffing a worm in a tube for several years, but I cut the worm off even with the rear of the body. I stuff the worm to add weight to the tube for casting, without giving the tube a fast fall like it would with a weight. I lubricate the worm with garlic Bang scent so it will slide easier, and use a 4/0 or 5/0 hook so the lure won't bunch up in the hook.
