Default Sometimes it pays to take your own advice.

When people ask about colors for clear water I always recommend darker, more natural colors and the same for cloudy days. Today I had both. So naturally I was throwing chartreuse . Nothing. Took my own advice, switched to a watermelon red Tiki Stick and caught 5: 2 largemouth, 1 smallmouth, one fat bluegill and a first for me. I landed my first spotted bass. I wasn't sure if it was a spot or a Guadalupe bass, but after doing a little research confirmed it was a spot. If I would have caught a Guadalupe I would have hit for the cycle ;D.

Rebbasser, I am glad you got out to fish. I know I am guilty of the very thing your talking about. Its the repetiion of fishing and catching fish that makes you have such confidence in a lure, that you will fish it for long periods of time fishless. It is the wisdom of learning that makes you know when to switch lures when they aren't working. ;D That is also my goal to learn.Lord knows I have a long road ahead of me. ;D P N J

Agreed P'N J. I too am way too guilty of using a lure or presentation that I have had success with vs. what is right for the conditions. It is a slow process, but I am working on it.

Sounds like you were at Canyon with the Guadalupe bass...I will be there Monday fishing. Wife has to do a presentation up there that evening to a girl scout troop, so we are dragging the boat and doing some fishing before she has to go. Of course I will stay on the water while she goes to the meeting. I don't want to be in the way ;D

Rebb, how often do yall get into those guadalupe bass? Where exactly can you catch them? After I finish school I think I want to try and finish off the last 2 types of bass I havent caught, guads and suwanees - I know how and where to get the suwanee but I know almost nothing about guadelupes.

WTL, the Guadalupe bass is only found in the Guadalupe river system of central Texas. I doubt they are in your neck of the woods, just like the Suwanee isn't in my neck of the woods. I've fished the Guadalupe for years and have never caught one.

I have caught a couple of them. I used to go float the Guadalupe in a tube and carry a rod with me. Most of what I caught was small largemouths, but there were a couple of Guadalupe and the occasional trout.

Guilty as charged. Man if I follow my own advice I may never talk again. Wife might enjoy it though! 8)

I'm bad about going with that confidence bait til hades freezes over.I like to fish fast and make a lot of casts, and sometimes you've got to slow down and take your time.
