Fishing Gloves
Hello all, it's been awhile. I'm now fishing a Bass club that runs from Febuary-October. Since I'm living up north, alot of times I'm fishing lakes in sub-freezing weather. Earlier this year I was fishing on a lake and ice was forming on my eyelets. I was wondering, aside from the Hot Shot brand gloves, are there any sporting gloves that I can wear that will keep my hands warm and not get chewed up by the braided line I got on my baitcaster?
I tried the Hot Shot gloves, because they were recommended to me from some bow hunter friends of mine. I found the wind cut right through them and the Power Pro chewed right through the rubber grip they have on the thumb. A sporting goods seller told me that Shakespeare or Berkley make a pair of gloves for winter fishing, but I haven't been able to find them anywhere. Is there anything anyone could suggest? I'm making my Christmas list already.

I use neoprin gloves for winter ice fishing, some have the removable fingertips....they make your hands sweat if it gets too warm out tho, but other than that, you have pretty good sensitivity...I'd recommend you carry two types of gloves, neoprine hunting/fishing glove, and then a nice wool/cotton type to switch back and forth. Usually one pair can get wet on the inside, its always nice to have a back up pair.

ECCESS,
What I use are the neoprene gloves sold for putting out duck decoys. They are a neoprene foam with a waterproof outer covering. I cut the index finger and thumb of the glove I cast with off at the first joint, which gives you the ability to feel the line and to be able to thumb the spool while casting. These gloves can be bought at Wally World as well as most sporting goods stores. Get the ones with the short gauntlet, as the long gauntlet just gets in the way. JackL

Did you see the fishing show where Keith Warren had those fishing gloves ? I emailed him and he told me they were made by the Frabill company.Unfortunately I wasn't able to track a pair down to buy, pretty much forgot about them since warm weather was here. Thanks for the reminder. P N J

I'm seriously considering getting a pair of these:
http://www.glacierglove.com/online_store.htm You can get them from BPS and Cabelas. I know, I know, it don't get cold down here like it does in Yankeeland but we get some raw, cold days.

I'd get them or something similiar Reb, back about 6 years ago we ice fished all Jan-Feb, it was about zero out and some days would reach 10 degrees, with a -30 wind chill at night...I found that handling wet fishing line, lures, and ice on the eyelets, makes for some cold hands after a few hours...I would keep a 2nd pair inside my jacket nice and warm when I needed to switch off...even with gloves you can get them wet an in no time start feeling numb from cold.

Try putting on some rubber gloves, available at all CVS's, Walgreens, Walmart's before you put on your gloves. They really do help.

The yellow cleaning ones?
When I used to play paintball in the winter, we would wear those, and the cut the fingertips out of wool gloves, and wear them over top. |

rubber gloves under your gloves will actually make your hands sweat and get colder.it's like wearing too many socks, your feet start sweating, next thing you know they're numb...get handwarmers.

wool socks should work great...as long as they're clean.

heated socks are nice to wear, or a butane hand warmer, avoid rubber or plastic gloves or you'll sweat and get colder, try two dif pairs of wool gloves, plus a big ol hat is the key to staying warm on the ice or cold water
