Default springtime baits

Usually when I normally fish in the spring I really never gave it alot of thought on if I was throwing the right bait
for the right time (spring) So I have done some reading and lipless cranks(rat-L traps) and jerkbaits seem to be
the topic when the talk about spring fishing at hand.
I need advice on pre-spawn,spawn, and post spawn.
thanks in advanced Denny Eaton,Ohio
sizes and colors...oh and I heard Zara Spooks? work

Spooks are a great topwater bait. I don't know what your weather is like up there, but if the water is still pretty cold, you could go with a suspending jerkbait. Throw, reel it down to depth, and let it sit. Have some crackers. Don't move it. Now twitch it. Don't jerk it, just a little bit of movement.

As the water warms some, its time to switch to crankbaits, lipless or otherwise, and spinnerbaits. Fish them as slow as you can.

Another thing to try as the fish start to stage in deeper water off of points pre-spawn is Carolina rigging. Some have even suggested C-rigging a crank bait to give it more depth and a new look. I have never tried it, though.

Sizes and colors will depend on where you are fishing...water clarity, fishing pressure, etc.

Well the 2 mainstays for me have been craw and shad colored/type baits. Â*Of course the Lizards are just hard to beat, especially the Yum Zellamanders.
