Default BEST time to bass fish in spring - midwest

looking to plan a trip to SE iowa/NE missouri in may, we will be there the week before the full moon, (16th) is this the best time to be there, or should we be there earlier in the month?

Well I can't tell about NE Mizzou, or SE Iowa, but I do live in the midwest in Indiana. Looking back at last year the entire month of may was great for me, and I mean great. I didn't really poor day at all. I fished every weekend in may and caught no less than 18 bass in a day, with 45 bass one day, which is my persoanl best for quantity in a day. So go anytime you can. I would guess that most of the spawn will be over, but depending on weather it mays till be going on then. So I would plan on post spawn patterns, with a back up of spawning patterning to look at.

JRAAP,
That sounds like possibly the best time to fish the midwest. We always try to plan a trip to Truman Res in central MO about that time every year. From about the middle of May until the middle of June should be a good time to fish in that area.
What lakes are you planning to fish?

JRAAP,
Â* Â* I would say around the first of June, or in that time frame. It all depends on what the weather is doing as far as temperatures.
Â* Â* As the time gets closer, I would call the F & G department in those states and talk to them. I don't know about Iowa or MO, but Kansas F&G has a web site that I can pull up that will tell me what is going on at each lake on a weekly basis.

I live here in Kansas city and last season they started spawning around the last week of May into the Middle of June. Keep in mind that we had a very mild winter and I noticed that the spawn occured ealier in the smaller bodies of water.
