Default wading question

I was wondering about wading for bass. How close to cover can you expect to get close to and use either flipping or pitching without spooking the fish? One of the lakes I fish has some great pads but closer to shore is almost impossible to get the boat to. Also there isn't any shore access. I haven't been back there yet so there might be some wood cover also.

I havn't ever waded a lake before but I have waded several small rivers here in Iowa and some in Wisconsin.
I would think to wade up to pads it would require a great deal of stealth.I would think a windy day would be best.
Also the bottom of a lake where pads would grow will be quite soft so footing might not be that great.
Have you ever considered a float tube? There great on the small rivers and streams.

Its really difficult to flip any distance at all when you are wading, you will probably have to cast. You can get pretty close to the fish and still catch them, much closer than with a boat if you are quiet.

Sorry wading is not a great option here. You might do it once, maybe twice. This time of year especially, you wont make it a third and leave with all your extremities. 8)

I've waded many times in florida. I don't like it compared to wading up here, but I'm not too worried about my extremities unless I actually see a gator nearby, in which case I get in the boat pretty quickly.

Ever thought of trying a float tube instead?

A float tube sounds good. I don't think they would be good for water shallower than 2ft. The longer casts sounds like the ticket for this situation. I have a semi-vee boat so I can't get as shallow as with a bass boat. Thanks all.

I think you answered your own question ;D I haven't waded since I got a boat, but I'm planning on getting some waders, and doing a little river fishing. As for how close you can get to bass, well pretty dang close. Noise is the biggest thing that will make them run. If they are in cover, you can get within feet of them, that's why Pitchin and Flippin was designed for
