Which Fish Finder
Getting the boat ready for the coming season and find that my old Eagle has gave up the ghost.
I am wanting opinions on wich of the following you guy's think is the best buy. 1 Eagle Fishmark 480 2 Huminbird 535 3 Garmin 240 Since they are all about the same price and features I can't decide.I have never owned a Garmin but have heard good thing's about them. I have had a huminbird once but it was on a boat I only used one season. I have had several Eagle finder's but I don't mind changing brands if one of the others is better. |

Re: Which Fish Finder
I had a hummingbird, it is now in the landfill after taking a dump on me. Cost almost as much to repair it as to buy new. I now have a Garmin- so far so good, havent learned all the ins and outs of it yet. There are also a few that speak very highly of the Eagle. Zooker for one swears by them. This might not help except to maybe throw out the hummingbird choice. 8)

Re: Which Fish Finder
I have a Humminbird Matrix 37 which also gives you sidefinding abilities. I do like Humminbird(ok zooker come on out now) but I've had one issue with it. Everytime I go out and the temps are in the 30's I cannot see anything on the screen. But as the temps rise, it starts functioning. I'm gonna send Humminbird a email about it, and see if this is normal or just a bad unit. I will say that if you are gonna fish big lakes, make sure you get something GPS capable. I will also say that the Martrix models are mostly availble with the new mapping technology, and so are several others. Man there are so many choices and options, it's really dificult to pick just one If you are looking for a basic unit for a good price, the the Fishmark 320 is as far as I'm concerned one of he best VALUES in the Fishfiner field.

Liquid crystal displays will oftimes malfunction in either very hot or very cold temps.

Re: Which Fish Finder
if u get a huminbird and if u have a gps, then keep the gps away from the humminbird cause it takes all the satallite signals from the gps for some reason.IMO i wouldnt go with humminbird

Re: Which Fish Finder
If you cannot afford a Lowrance go with the Garmin. If you go with the Humminbird, you will need 2 of them. One for the boat and one for the shop. By the time it gets back you will need to send the other one to the shop...

Re: Which Fish Finder
I have used Eagle in the past. Very satisfied. This year I wanted to try something new and bought a Garmin 240 and like it. From what I've read, you can' go wrong with Eagle or Garmin. I think its a matter of preference

I've got 2 Humminbird 565's-but not one for the boat and one for the shop-one on the console and one on the trolling motor. Been real happy with both.
