need opinion on new baitcaster
Well, long story short, my sister borrowed my iPod without asking and promptly lost it. I've decided to just take the $250 that its worth in cash and buy a new one when i start working again if i really want one that bad. So im buying a new casting reel. I'm pulling out all the stops, price really isn't a huge matter to me. I've got my ideas narrowed down to a couple reels: Quantum Energy PT 7.0:1 ratio or 6.3:1
Quantum Tour Edition PT Burner 7.0:1 ratio Pflueger Supreme 6.3:1 Ratio Shimano Curado D 7.0:1 or 6.3:1 ratio they're all between 170 and 220 bucks. I'm extremely leaning towards the Energy PT with that super fast ratio to put on my 7' MH all purpose stick for flipping pitching and froggin. anyone have experience with those new 7:1 ratios? I was thinking that if i dont like it i dont want to be stuck with it, but the cabelas here will take anything back for exchanges, their return policy is awesome. Anyone else like the sound of the energy PT in 7:1??

I'm a huge shimano fan, but I can't say anything good or bad about the new quantum's, my one and only quantum was agood reel, but that was years ago...I'm sure either one of those you have singled out would be a good choice. I tried the new daiwa viento, but didn't care for it at all. I'll stick to the shimano's for a while.

For most rod/reel combinations, I like Pflueger, but don't know if I'd spend the extra $30.00 for a Supreme over the President for the application you indicate. I think the President in the wide spool version (better to handle 17 - 20 lb line) would do just fine. My personal preference, for flippin/pitchin would be Shimano, either the Castaic, or my favorite - the Scorpion Quickfire (Japaneese market version of the Castaic), I believe it's better quality than the Castaic, for about $180.00 which isn't too bad. The reel features a unique thumb flippin switch that I really like, 'cause I prefer not to lockup the reel until the bait hits bottom unless the line moves. The thumb bar allows you to engage the reel without turning the reel handle, allowing a quick hookset should that line move before the bait hits bottom. It's a great real for this application, and would be fine when tossing a frog.
