Back a long time ago, there was a cartoon in Playboy magazine. Â*It showed two guys in a boat. Â*In the background there were five mushroom clouds rising up. Â*The one fellow says to the other. Â*"I'll tell you what it means. Â*All size restrictions are off, and screw the limits."
(It was a Graham Wilson Cartoon.)

Don't we go over this question about once a week or so? If you want to let your fish go. Do it. If you don't feel free to not do it also.

From my own personal standpoint, (and I know it means nothing to anyone else), I don't think any Bass should be kept, and they all should be released. Releasing these powerful, intelligent, and beautiful GAME fish, (and the key word is GAME,) ensures that the next generation of bass anglers has the same oppurtunity to match wits and skill with the pinnacle of fresh water fishing. I personally give thanks to the man upstairs everytime I land a nice fish. Wether tourney fishing or not, I respect these awesome fish, and I feel extremely lucky each and everytime I put my boat into the water. Tight Lines-and practice catch & release.

cajun, who reads a playboy magezine? Â*;D NC, the only exception to that would be if there was a pond with too many bass in it, not allowing the bass to get bigger.

i see nothing wrong with keeping a few of the small bass a year. what pisses me off is these crappie fisherman that take home limit after limit of crappie all the time.

Release all that I catch, to lazy to clean them. I fish only for the fun and enjoyment.

I agree Zooker....It drives me nuts when people take 25 crappies.....there is no need for 25 of them......6 or 7 maybe.

Catch em up

I've kept bass once. It was out of a lake with a stable population that has probably a bit too many small bass. I've kept a brim once and thats about it. I fish for fishing, not for the fish. Although once I go offshore saltwater(hopefully next month with a friend of mine) I have no problem keeping the stuff I get.

I usually release Largemouth but sometimes I keep a few.
If they are gut hooked,I'll keep them or even if they just appear very tasty.
It really depends on how the fishing is and my mood.
Sunday I caught 20 bass.
I gutpiled three of them. One was gut hooked (3lb)and two (3lb and 5lb)were just really asking for the pan.
I have to eat a few Largemouth's every now and then just to keep things in perspective.
Everything else I keep (depending on the size)except for trophy Brown Trout and carp.

You ate a 5.lb bass ??? Not only is that a good breeder fish but given time that could become a 10.lber. In my opinion the smaller fish(1 pound and less) are better to eat. Release the trophies and eat the smaller ones.

Well that's truly is a heart warming post. However the FACTS are that you need to maintain a good diveristy, and many times the smaller will need to be kept to increase the Average size. Lots of variables, but any decent biologist will tell you that some of them need to be kept. Don't overdo it, but I will easily admit, I've eaten many bass, and will again. I rarely keep them at all, unless we are eating them within 24-36 hours. I also agree with Kybasser, that the 1lbers actually are better eating than a 5lber. But when I had a 5lber that wouldn't go back, I did fry it up with some others. I tried to return it, but it was gut hooked, and wasn't going down after 5 minutes of holding it down. So I decided not to waste it. I wouldn't have done it ohterwise.

Only time I keep them is at the lake house. Up there the nearest grocery store is 20 miles away. We only keep what we know we will need for dinner. Same with the catfish off the trout line. The line fills up, we take the better of them to eat and the rest get freed. Everything else is CPR. 8)

Yep.
She was full of eggs to but that's just the way it had to be.
As I stated,I usually release them but not that day.
We don't have a shortage here.
I don't mess with 1lbers.....not enough meat.
