Wide gap hooks.
What size wide gap hook is good to use with soft jerk baits and tubes? I was watching bassmaster U. and they talked about the wide gap and the baits I mentioned, but no word of the size?..I m really sorry to post 3 post,I just have a fewQ's

Re: Wide gap hooks.sorry I have another Q
The most important thing Denny si that your questions are intelligent ..Which yours are, so don't worry about it.
I like to use a 3/0 Gamagatzu on soft plastic jerkbaits, but on a tube it all depends on the bulk of the bait itself....Typically, i use the same 3/0 or maybe a 4/0 depending on the size...Hope this helps! Catch em up Brian |

Re: Wide gap hooks.sorry I have another Q
I agree with tackletester-a 3/0 or 4/0 does the job nicely on a soft jerkbait ot tube.
Deny, ask your questions-that is how you learn stuff ;D. |

Re: Wide gap hooks.sorry I have another Q
Some folks recommend using wide gap hooks as they work well, but they make the following adjustments to get them working even a tad better. Â*
1. Â*open the hook just a bit so the point doesn't set tight against the lure 2. Â*carefully mash the barb down, but just halfway down...they claim a better penetration on the hookset 3. Â*bend the hook sideways about 3 to 5 degrees.....this puts the point out of line with the eye of the hook and the line......more likely to hook the fish that hit from the front of the lure...this sideways offset bending is called "kirbing" a hook. |

Re: Wide gap hooks.sorry I have another Q
On full size Flukes I like a 5/0 Texposer Hook. On the small ones I like a 3/0. To each his own. I use smaller hooks on my 6" Lizards than most folks 2/0 or 3/0, but a bigger on my flukes. OH well it works for me

Scott Calvin? Oh great another newbie. I hope this guy doesn't ask a bunch of goofy questions
Denny I'm not implying that your question is goofy. It's kind of an inside joke. |

Re: Wide gap hooks.sorry I have another Q
Match your hook size to your bait size. I use a hook with a gap at least double the width of the plastic. Or in other words, after it's rigged, the remaining gap is at least as wide as the bait. That way, there is enough room for the hook to get through the plastic and into the fish's jaw.

Well I would have Lizards but I thought the way he signed his post was a little disrespectful of you.
I don't mean to be negative but it's just something to do with putting a user name like this FIRST NAME_ LAST NAME. I remember a while back a guy posted I think as Ivan_Crane. Man am I glad he's gone ;D ;D ;D |

What you talkin about Willis Yes one and the same. The reason for it was, I got set up with DSL at work today, and when trying to log in it wouldn't let me > So I just signed up as myself, and then sent Kevin an PM asking why, and how to fix it. Hoping to be able to tie into the DSL from home, but since I'm computer illiterate, my brother the computer wiz(that's what he does for a living) is going try to get it set up. So theres your explanation, and you never know when Santa Claus is gonna show up ;D I actually thought everybody would pick up on it, since I signed it Lizards. There are several folks that already knew my name, I'm definately not ashamed of it. But with a name like Ivan_Crane, I don't think I could live with that. Now where the heck is PNJ ??? Lizards |

Re: Wide gap hooks.
I thought using the decoder ring was the only way to order a chrome plated whiz bang. Â*Is that right?
