Whats your reason for catching bass? If I knew a pond where a beheamoth like that was lurking in the shallows, I'd take a couple casts at it. I bet it would be one helluva fight.

i was asking him a question. i was simply wondering why he is targetting one. wether it be for food, or recreation. there is no law against asking a question.

8)The best reason to catch a carp is for the fight, the are might battlers and dont give up at all.
I hooked a 30+ pounder in the belly with a rattling rogue and it took all my line down to the spool and we had to put the trolliing motor on warp speed to catch up with it, and finally got it in.
If I hadn't had one of my fav. rogues I would have let it go.
I really havent noticed carp in grassy areas up here where I live, they are just always on mud flats or making the smoochin sugar lips smack of there bugle lipped head.
I have caught them on worms, dough balls , wheaties n jam, hotdogs, and sour can of corn is a easy way to catch them.
What i dont like about carp..in my experiences where you find carp, you dont find many bass

Now for the question of the day,, anyone ever come up with a crank bait or jerk bait and have a carps scale on a treble hook about the size of a thumb naiL lol
sometimes your lure will "sideswipe" ol buggle lips.
Up at some of the cheese and smoked fish places around Put In Bay at lake erie they have smoked carp.
Mom used to tell us way back in the 20's and 30's when she grew up they would catch turtles or carp and keep them in water troughs and keep changing the water to cleanse the carp, and then when butchering them take the mud vein out
ahhh mudvein..what a band eh? lmao 8)

Actually, i was just wondering the same thing...the grass carp in my pond are about 3 ft long. What time of day to catch'em? They seem more active in the evening to me.

ooo, i had no idea they were such fighters. there are huge carp in some of the ponds i fish.i have even mistaken their dorsal fin as a lilly pad because it was night and i was standin about 30' away and all i saw was something flapin out of the water. turns out it was a huge carp in less then 1' of water.

Carp do put up a heck of a fight, but to be honest if you want good info on them, your at the wrong site. A carp site is where the guru's for carp fishing will be, not a bass fishing site. As seriously as some of take bass fishing, there are those who are just as serious about carp fishing. DO a google for carp fishing, and I think you'll be amazed at what comes up.

I'm gonna have to go carp fishing now. After reading about that fight, I'm gonna have to see for myself. There are some big 3 footers in a local lake that also has some damn nice bass. Next time I go, I'll have to find em.

JB in my experiences I've found just the opposite. Usually carp hang around good milfoil. I always catch bass around carp.

ROB,

Don't bother. The next time you have corn for dinner, save some to bait your hook with. (About 6 or 7 pieces on a #1 hook about 18 inches under a bobber and get ready to fight.

how much do carp move? would a single corn niblet have enough of a scent to attract a carp in a lake already abundant with various grasses and other weeds? would it be better to "bait a hole" with some corn a few nights a week, then putting line in at the end of the week? walmart had a few different scents of carp bait, corn was one, "natural food" was another, and I forget the third. The lake I know that holds some monster carp actually is one of my favorite bass fishing lakes. I'll take a couple heavy duty poles next time I go out and see what happens.

ROB

Just open a can of corn and throw a handfull out where you are going to fish about 30 minutes before you bait your hook. They will find you.
